Wirehaven guides utilize some of Minnesota's most scenic and productive hunting grounds. Minnesota is a premier national grouse and pheasant hunting destination, blessed with more than 11 million acres of public forest, and it often leads the nation in the number of ruffed grouse harvested by hunters. Whether in a mixture of aspen, birch, and coniferous woods favored by grouse or in the young, regenerating forests with moist, rich soils where woodcock thrive, our guides know where to find the game.
We tailor each hunting trip to the preferences and skill levels of the clients, ensuring a personalized and rewarding experience.
Wirehaven guides also provide additional guide services in Wisconsin and out West for pheasant, and we are willing to travel elsewhere upon request!

In addition to guiding, Carl has developed Wirehaven’s Bird Dog Boot Camp — a focused, hands-on training program for sporting dogs. Every dog entrusted to Wirehaven’s care receives the same dedication, patience, and respect that Carl gives to his own dogs.

Guided Hunting Services
Enjoy an unforgettable upland hunting experience with Wirehaven Kennels’ guided services. Hunt all day with our top-tier German Wirehaired Pointers, who work tirelessly to cover ground, locate birds, and create quality shot opportunities.
We put the hunter first through personalized, small-group service led by experienced guides with extensive knowledge of prime hunting locations. Every hunt begins with a detailed pre-hunt briefing covering safety protocols, hunting strategy, dog expectations, and proper field handling and etiquette.
Whenever possible, two dogs are utilized during each hunt. This approach increases the likelihood of productive bird contacts while ensuring responsible dog management and proper care throughout the day. Our dogs are conditioned to adapt to a wide range of terrain, weather, and cover types, ensuring no hunting ground is too challenging.
Hunters are encouraged to bring their own dog when coordinated in advance. Owner-handled dogs must be discussed prior to the hunt to ensure compatibility, safety, and a positive experience for all dogs and hunters in the field.
Bird Dog Boot Camp (BDBC) Services
Bird Dog Boot Camp (BDBC) is an experience-based field exposure and conditioning program designed to prepare dogs for real hunting scenarios. The program supports young dogs, seasoned veterans, and older dogs through structured upland exposure, optional waterfowl exposure, recall conditioning, and confidence-building field work.
All dogs enrolled in BDBC are treated with the same care, respect, and standards as Wirehaven’s own dogs. Each dog is handled individually based on temperament, experience level, and physical ability. Training and exposure are experience-driven and ethical, with no pressure-based methods.
Bird Dog Boot Camp is conducted through planned daily sessions only. Wirehaven Kennels does not offer overnight boarding. If weather, fatigue, legal restrictions, or dog welfare require adjustments, daily plans may be modified in the best interest of the dog.

We do not rush development, overwork dogs, or promise unrealistic outcomes. Our focus is long-term success, safety, and enjoyment in the field.
Regulatory & Ethical Standards
All services provided by Wirehaven Kennels are conducted in full compliance with state and federal wildlife regulations. Bird exposure and hunting opportunities may vary based on season dates, species-specific regulations, weather conditions, and habitat availability.

Refunds, Deposits & Scheduling
Refunds may be negotiable in cases of severe or unsafe weather to ensure fairness and transparency for all clients.
Deposits are non-refundable in the case of no-call, no-show bookings. Deposits reflect the time, preparation, and resources committed to each scheduled service. Wirehaven Kennels strives to work with clients whenever possible while maintaining professionalism and fairness.
Travel & Custom Services
Wirehaven Kennels is willing to travel to provide dogs and guide services for upland hunting adventures beyond our primary operating area. Clients interested in off-site hunts or custom arrangements are encouraged to reach out with details so services can be tailored appropriately.
